History of Wild Rice:
Wild rice, also known as Manoomin among the Ojibwe people, literally means "The Good Berry." Because of its nutty, earthy flavor and longer, thicker, and more solid hull than conventional rice, wild rice has been cultivated for ages. Shallow freshwater marshes along the shores of lakes and rivers are typical habitats for this plant. It wasn't until the 1950s that farmers in Minnesota, began growing it commercially on rice patties.

Diabetes
People with diabetes can benefit from eating wild rice since it has a low glycemic index and is therefore easier on the body's insulin.
